This was a game of total domination by The Dons from start to finish. The Farnbrough Town ground hosted Dons biggest win yet but unfortunately this game was no where near as exciting as last weeks 4-3 thriller against North Greenford United. Not a great deal I can say about this game really except that of the five goals Joe Sheerin finally scored, the crowd went mental and so did he running the full length of the pitch to celebrate with a very lonely and bored Glyn Shimmell and to top it off he went and scored again and he could easily have had a hattrick.
Danny Oakins also scored twice and if Kevin Cooper doesn't watch it Danny will end up with more goals at the end of the season than he does. Somewhere in the middle Neil Robson joined in the fun with a goal of his own.
One performance of note was Lee Sidwell's total domination of the Frimley No11 throughout the first half. This guy stood no chance and regularly ended up on his back or losing his boot and looking silly. He was substituted at the start of the second half by a guy twice his size but it didn't make any difference. After the fifth goal Frimley decided to keep the score down and defended in numbers with the rare breakout to give Glyn Shimmel something to do but were soon put back in their place. No matter what Kevin Cooper did in the second half he couldn't get past 8 defenders and his nearest effort at scoring came back out off the far post. Having said that Coops had a much better game than of late.
Final Score: Frimley Green 0 - 5 AFC Wimbledon
Attendence: 1089
Booked: Glyn Shimmel
Team: Glyn Shimmel, Keith Ward, Danny Roberts, Danny Oakins, Tony Readings, Lee Sidwell, Lee Passmore, Neil Robson, Joe Sheerin, Kevin Cooper, Shaun Marshall. Subs: Ally Russell, Simon Bassey, Dave Towse

Another saturday another home win for the Dons. This was another exciting game particulalrly in the second half. The visitors, North Greenford United, obviously decided they were not going to be overawed by the size of the crowd and went for it from the start and were 0-1 within a couple of minutes after defender Keith Ward was easily bypassed some 15 yards from the halfway line and John Hills netted. Not to worry though, on 14 minutes another defender, Sim Johnson, lept into the air and headed downwards to score his second goal of the season to bring things level. With time running on thoughts of half time and going in level entered by head but not the heads of the NGU players. On 34 minutes No 9 John Hills scored his second and things started to look bad for Dons. I can only imagine what Terry Eames said and did in the dressing room.
The second half started and it didn't take very long for things to look even worse when NGU No11 Paul Flynn scored their third. 'Surely' I thought 'we won't come back from this'. Four minutes later Andy Sullivan picked up the ball on the wing, took it close to the goal line crossed it to the other side of the goal. The cross was returned inch perfect back into the area where Keith Ward was waiting with his back turned to the goal. A fantastic overhead kick sent the ball crashing into the net and Dons supporters into raptures. Before that NGU had a player sent off for an 'assualt' on an already prostrate Dons player in front of the Grolsh terrace. It was good to see he didn't argue or protest and walked off straight down the tunnel ignoring everyone including his own bench. Then on 64 minutes Danny Oakins levelled at 3-3.
With 15 minutes left on the clock Terry Eames brought on Ally Russell and took off Kevin Cooper who, again, hadn't had a brilliant game. Russell once again did the job required of him by Terry and on 86 minutes produced the winner, the crowd went mental and the TV crew alongside me seemed suitably impressed as well.
Just a note on the referee. In the CCL there seems to be two types of ref, those that blow up for everything and those that don't. This ref was definately of the latter type. In the first half a player could have stabbed another and wouldn't have even got a yellow. In the second half be produced his cards six times. There was very little time wasted in this game with no added time in the first half and 3 minutes added in the second.
Team: Glyn Shimmel, Keith Ward, Dave Towse, Danny Oakins, Sim Johnstone, Lee Sidwell, Lee Passmore, Neil Robson, Joe Sheerin, Kevin Cooper, Andy Sullivan Subs: Ally Russell, Shaun Marshall and Tony Readings
Attendence: 3158
Bookings: Oakins, Sullivan (AFC)

AFC Wimbledon's first cup tie of the season was a cracking affair against Brimsdown Rovers in the London Senior Cup. This game had everything, 6 goals, 9 coverted penalties, a sending off, 30 minutes extra time and a brilliant online live commentry from the ground.
The expected trouncing of Rovers by the Dons never came. Rovers took the lead on 16 minutes and doubled the score line in the second half on 68 minutes. With Danny Roberts being sent off for a second bookable offence things looked bad but on 69 minutes Shaun Marshall scored his second goal in two games and Keith Ward, captain for the night, equalised on 89 minutes.
Rovers just never read the script and again took the lead in the first half of extra time on 96 minutes leaving Dons fans worried and praying urging the players on. With just a couple of minutes left on the clock Danny Oakins netted on 115 minutes to make the score 3-3 and a penalty shoot out was required to settle the tie. Rovers took the first penalty and Glyn Shimmel tipped the effort round the post. After that every penalty was converted to finish 5-4 to the Super Dons sending fans into raptures and looking forward to the next round against Woodford Town.
Final Score: AFC Wimbledon 3 - 3 Brimsdown Rovers AET (AFCW win 5-4 on penalties)
Attendence: 1518
Team: Glyn Shimmel, Keith Ward, Danny Roberts, Danny Oakins, Tony Readings, Andy Sullivan, Simon Bassey, Lee Sidwell, Ally Russell, Kevin Cooper, Sean Marshall

Another Saturday home game, another victory for the Super Dons!!!! (pattern emerging here??). Just for a change I can't complain about the match officials at todays game, they are easily the best I've seen this season (been to 6 games so far). Joe Sheerin had an excellent game today, could have scored himself two or three times just in the second half. Kevin Cooper didn't seem his usual self today and I can only remember him having one really good attempt at goal which went wide soon after kick off. Coops was subbed in the second half. Goals came from Andy Sullivan and substitiute Shaun Marshall. Ally Russell looks like he'll be causing opposition defences problems this season, he had several chances after coming on as sub in the second half but was unable to convert any of them. Simon Bassey managed to start a punch up in the 89th minute and got himself booked as a result.
Final Score: AFC Wimbledon 2 - 0 Reading Town
Attendence: 2836
Bookings: Simon Bassey and Dave Mills (Reading)
Team: Shimmell, Ward, Towse, Oakins, Johnston, Sidwell, Passmore, Robson, Sheerin, Cooper, Sullivan. Subs: Bassey, Russell, Marshall (all used)

This afternoon Terry Eames announced on the Weird & Wonderful messageboard that he had brought back Ally Russell and Sean Marshall into the squad just a week after he had let them go. Welcome back lads.

The home game against Feltham FC on Tuesday 11 September has been postponed until 22 October due to Felthams cup committments. The good news from this is that Keith Ward will only have to miss one game during his suspension period. Apparently the CCL suspends players for a number of days rather than games.
I'd also like to wish Glen 'Trigger' Mulcaire a happy 32nd birthday. have a good one Glen! And also belated happy birthday to Daniel Couch who was 20 on 3 September.

Of the seven league matches played so far this season I have been to five of them and up to now I can safely say that todays game by the seaside against Withdean 2000 at Wothing was definately the worst of those five. The injured Kevin Cooper was badly missed in this game, Joe Sheerin had to play up front on his own in a 4-5-1 formation rather than the usual 4-4-2. As good a player as Joe is he lacks fitness and confidence and, to me, is just on the pitch especially in the second halves to make up the numbers. This game needed someone like 'Trigger' Mulcaire but he wasn't given enough time to make the difference.
Withdean have little skill although they are very good actors. As the game wore on the closer we got to the final whistle the more often they started rolling around on the floor 'injured'. The referee, Steven Cook, was easily conned and gave too many decisions Withdeans way that should either have not been given in the first place or should have been given to Dons which is probably how they managed to beat Raynes Park Vale in their last game.
There were many references to Hogwarts after a lady behind me nicknamed the referee Harry Potter due to his apparent extreme youth. This guy was young enough to be the grandson of one of the linesmen. Like the referee at Ash United this lad was inconsistent in his decision making. During the first half Dons gave away a clear penalty, the ref reached for his cards then changed his mind but he did give two other penalties to Withdean in the second half one of which was saved by, in my eyes anyway, Man of the Match Glyn Shimmel.
This game had very few highlights. The ones that spring to mind immediately was a fantastic shot which went over the bar from Neil Robson (does that man ever shave?) and several great saves from our own keeper. The Glyn's opposite number had very little to do. One other highlight was the fight in the middle of the pitch shorly before the final whistle which resulted in yellow cards for players from either side, how no one was sent off is a mystery to me.
No doubt Phillip Don will be giving todays ref a call and we'll be seeing him one day in the retirement home for eternally bad referees otherwise known as The Premiership.
Final Score: Withdean 2000 2 - 0 AFC Wimbledon

Just over a week after taking them on Terry Eames has announced that he has released Ally Russell and Sean Marshall both for different reasons.
Good luck in the future lads.

Are the rats leaving the sinking ship? Kenny Cunningham has already left Franchise FC for Birmingham City and Neil Ardley went to Watford. Hakan Mild has now returned to IFK Gothenburg for an undisclosed fee and Des Byrne has gone on trial to Carlisle. Par Karlsson has also gone to Swedish club Elfsborg for £40,000. Also Andreus Lund has decided to retire due to his injuries. How many other lesser known players there have left for pastures new without anyone noticing?

Judging from the match updates tonight there can't have been many highlights to this game away to Southall. The game has been described as a battling performance. The good news that comes from the game is that Dons finally got a clean sheet. Kevin Cooper and Joe Sheerin were both substituted towards the end of the game by Glen Mulcaire and Dave Fry. Unfortunately Coops has a slight hamstring strain but hopefully will be OK for the game away to Withdean 2000 on Saturday, Joe is to go for an x-ray on his toe.
Terry has described tonights referee and 'dreadful' and 'probably the worst official I have ever seen'.
Final score: Southall 0 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
Attendence: 1046
Bookings: Lee Passmore, Joe Sheerin, Glen Mulcaire and Mo Kadi (Southall)

My heartfelt congratulations go to Lee Sidwell and his wife on the birth last night of a baby girl, Louise. Don't forget the AFC Wimbledon shirt for the new Womble, Lee.

Charles Koppel appeared on Radio 5 Live this morning. He spouted the usually rubbish that he always spouts. He also attempted to defend the crowd figures by saying they were going up each home game. He neglected to admit that the vast majority of the crowd came from the away supporters and that Wolves had more support there than Gillingham. He reckoned that AFC Wimbledon would have been formed no matter what (I assume he meant with fewer supporters).
